Lowell V. Noel on Equity Through Generations

- HOW I GOT MY CARD

Around 1927, my Grandfather Nickolaus Hoffman created an Ornamental Iron Wishing Well for Los Angeles Equity which sat for years in the old Brown Derby. I've never seen it myself, but at that time, I think Grandpa Nick was one of the few or the only one doing that kind of work in the city. I believe some of his work is in the old Masonic Hall now used as The Geffen Playhouse in the form of a Chandelier and window grates around the building.
Following in his footsteps, I joined Equity at the L.A. office about a month after returning from a year long gig overseas in 1993. One of the thrills was meeting George Ives who I've seen on many TV things over the years. George has also counseled me on one or two contract issues over time. I attended the regional meeting in 94 at Musician's Local 47 and found a real sense of brotherhood among all. I think I met Ivy Bethune at that gathering.
Happy Birthday Equity!
